She goes through the doorway and searches for the ice machine. She finds it to her left, but only after identifying a candy vending machine and inconveniently placed trash can by running into them. She gets her hand wet determining that the ice chute is dripping warm water, and that there's a note taped to the front of the machine. "I'll bet this says 'Out of order'. I wonder if it tells where to find another one." Rather than "blindly" visiting other floors, she decides to find out if anybody is around to read the sign to her. Saying the words to herself and deeply feeling the reality of them scares her, but also makes a familiar thrill run up and down her body. She wants more. She decides to wallow around in the new feelings of vulnerability and helplessness that are simultaneously exciting and frustrating her, for just a little while longer. The last tube of the night was moving away from central London, loaded with tourists overwhelmed by the long day spent walking through museums and monuments, a few smartly dressed individuals who had spent Friday night after work in some club, and a large number of young, tipsy, drunk or even drugged people moving from one part of the capital to another, On the way home or looking for a new place to get high until morning. As the subway moved away from the city center, the carriages emptied. Outside Area 4 the tourists were practically finished, and only the few who lived outside the city were left on the train. In the last carriage, in particular, was stationed a couple of girls who had attracted the attention of all travellers since they had climbed at Liverpool Street.
